Why subscribe to The Art of Preaching?

Hi! My name is Preston Sharpe and I am the founder and curator of The Art of Preaching. I am a veteran preacher with decades of experience writing sermons for myself as well as for others. The weekly resources you will receive from The Art of Preaching are engaging, well-researched, and contextual to the moment. I understand that sermon writing is an art and, therefore, my goal is not to write your sermon for you but to provide you with resources to engage as the Spirit leads you.

How does it work?

Every week, you will receive a FREE overview of three scripture texts for the coming week from the Revised Common Lectionary. The RCL is a selection of readings rooted in the historic Christian tradition which lead the church through all the seasons of the church calendar: Advent, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, and Ordinary Time.

Don’t use the lectionary? Don’t worry! Your subscription will allow you to access archives of past weeks and you can search by scripture reference.

After you jump in the newsletter, you can become a paid subscriber will give you a weekly three page (approx.) summary of the texts for the upcoming Sunday. Subscribe to the “Deep Dive” for an additional 9 page (approx.) brief each week and a weekly Zoom call to discuss the text with others.

Looking for something specific?

Contact us if you are looking for research on a specific topic. You can ask us about random stuff. Why do some churches use incense in worship? What is Advent? How did Baptists get started? Independent research is billed hourly.

What Others are Saying…

For those whose profession is to communicate biblical truth to listeners, Preston’s work stands as a priceless resource.  I know him to be a thorough researcher who is able to simultaneously uncover what is faithful to the Biblical text and meaningful to modern Christians.  His experience in the pulpit and as a researcher make him supremely qualified for this work. In a time when clear communication about the Gospel is so critical, pastors and preachers will find a reliable partner in Preston, and should seriously consider taking advantage of the assistance he has to offer.

So many pastors can relate to the feeling of “spinning-the-plates.” Sunday comes quickly and finding faithful and helpful resources for sermon prep can be a challenge on any given week. While commentaries and books are beneficial, they also can be overwhelming just by sheer volume alone. Having someone to journey with towards Sunday, a person to lean into the scripture’s context and then help bridge those themes into the life of the church, is a major blessing for the local pastor. This is where Fr. Preston Sharpe is a gift to the body. Time after time, his work and studies, research and scholarship, have helped clarify and inspire my imagination to sharpen an idea or message heading into the weekend. He is as equally well-versed as he is kind and thoughtful. Most of all, he has a pastor’s heart! Our church has directly benefited because of his work and my life has been greatly blessed by his friendship.

Preston Sharpe has the mind of a scholar, the heart of a pastor, and a successful coach's encouragement.  He has helped me get around intellectual dead ends through his research and interpretation.  I consider Preston, a valued partner as I teach my congregation.

Preston Sharpe has become a fantastic and indispensable resource for me personally and the church I pastor. Preston is extremely knowledgeable and clearly communicates his knowledge weekly in our zoom meetings. He has personally answered many of my questions and has always gone out of his way to make sure that I have access to resources that will guide me in the right direction. I have not found a more accessible resource and guide in all of my years in ministry.  I highly recommend Preston as he continues to speak into my life and give me content which filters into weekly messages that speak life into the church I lead.

As a pastor of a small church with a number of weekly responsibilities, my time spent in weekly community with Preston and other pastors has been very beneficial to me. Preston's leadership in presenting solid biblical research to explore passages for their truth and meaning, as well as their significance for the church today allows me to confidently get a jump start each week in my sermon preparation. The fellowship of pastors gathered allows me the freedom to quietly listen and learn, ask clarifying questions, or offer my perspective, all while laughing and enjoying our call to share the Gospel together.
